Residential fun!!!!!
Posted 7th August 2023
The STHP Residential took place in July at Ormside Mill in the Lake District and was a great success, the young people got fully involved with all the activities on offer, supporting one another and facing their fears!! canoeing, abseiling and ghyll scrambling were just some of the activities on offer as well as onsite activities of which Archery proved very popular. We were joined by the Bury, Oldham and Rochdale cohort and a couple of Stockport young people from our second cohort, and it was great to see them all get along and support each other.
We would like to give a big shout-out to one of our young people Chloe, who made a delicious carbonara for everyone on the second night!! and to our facilitator Kerry, who even though she looked terrified, faced her fear and abseiled down a cliff, much to the young people’s surprise!!!
We would also like to give a special thanks to our guide Josh, who showed us around the local areas and supported us with all the activities. He was absolutely fantastic and super patient with the young people, giving clear instructions and making sure he kept everyone safe!!
To top it all off, can you imagine the team's surprise when we came down on the last morning to find a thank you note from the young people, that was a super emotional moment!! It was an honour to be able to give the young people this opportunity and it was a pleasure for us to be part of an unforgettable experience making memories with our young people!!!

From welcoming new partnerships and celebrating over 500 young people moving into their homes, to welcoming new Local House Projects and expanding the NHP team, we’ve seen real momentum in our mission to support care leavers.

Young people tell us that the House Project approach helps significantly, but we should never underestimate the enormous challenges they face at such a critical time in their lives. This reality was brought home to us recently with Sue’s decision to swap her working life at NHP for retirement caring for her new granddaughter two days a week. Even though Sue is fully in control of this decision-making process - something our young people often are not - the transition has still been discombobulating; letting go of something she enjoys and that has defined her, and moving on to something that will be incredibly rewarding and joyous.
